A human hair is composed of 3 main parts: the hair shaft – the follicle – the bulb. To remove hair and damage the bulb, LHE treatments send out a very low and ultra-safe wave of light. The light generates heat which is also drawn into the hair follicle. The heat continues to flow through the hair shaft and transfers down to the bulb, destroying it and inhibiting hair growth at its source.
Acne and acne scarring
When treating acne, time is of the essence. LHE works fast, offering a complete treatment in 30 days. LHE's addition of heat intensifies the chemical process and decreases overall treatment time. Propionibacterium acnes synthesize and store a large amount of porphyrins. Once the porphyrin is exposed to visible light it becomes chemically active and transfers to an excited state, resulting in the formation of singlet oxygen, which combines with cell membranes to destroy P.acnes. This process is dependent on the rate of production of excited porphyrins, the concentration of photons, the temperature and the wavelength of the photons. LHE acts as a catalyst to produce the required photochemical reaction from porphyrin activation to oxygen production. This ability is based on three controlled parameters, those of wavelength, overall concentration of photons and temperature.
The LHE effect on skin texture is based on the stimulation of new collagen growth that will help replenish and even out the shrunken dermis layer. Tone and texture improve and fine lines and wrinkles fade as collagen rebuilds.
Near and mid infrared wavelengths (700 and above) are directly absorbed by intra and extracellular water. The resulting mild thermal insult to the papillary and upper reticular dermis leads to fibroblast activation. Fibroblasts are the cells of connective tissue responsible for making the collagen and elastin fiber cells found in the connective tissue of the dermis.
The creation of new collagen and connective material caused by the thermal insult and subsequent fibroblast activation occurs over a period of a few weeks to a few months. This wound healing response leads to improvement in skin texture and the smoothing of fine lines.

LHE Skin Tightening emits infrared light energy in a proprietary, 30 second multi-pulse algorithm. This provides optimal deep dermal heating while preventing epidermal over heating. The broadband infrared light reaches a penetration depth of 1-3 mm, targeting the reticular dermis. Dermal temperature is raised to 50-60˚C, while temperature of the epidermis is maintained below 40-42˚C to minimize pain and avoid any potential side effects. LHE targets melanin with light within the benign 400 – 1200nm light spectrum. This allows for effective coagulation of the target while optimizing safety by completely avoiding the UV exposure present in lower wavelengths. The added heat value of LHE further raises the core temperature, achieving coagulation without resorting to potentially dangerous high fluence levels. Once coagulated, the lesion is sloughed away by the body's natural healing process within 2 weeks of the treatment.
